BellRinger
For The Future
When Between State, our trusted brand agency partner, approached us to create a video for the BellRinger cancer ride event, we knew this was a project with a powerful purpose. BellRinger is a community united to support cancer research breakthroughs at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. This video needed to do more than tell a story—it had to ignite something deeper. Our mission was clear: to craft a piece that celebrated the courage and resilience of the riders while inspiring everyone to envision a brighter future for those impacted by cancer.

Capturing the Spirit of BellRinger
Filming this project was an adventure in itself. Over the course of two days, we covered nine locations across Washington, DC. From iconic cityscapes to intimate, meaningful spaces, every shot was carefully planned to capture the essence of BellRinger’s mission. It wasn’t without its challenges, but with the talent and dedication of our amazing crew, we made it happen. The hustle and teamwork behind the scenes truly mirrored the spirit of the riders and the cause they support.
“Being a cancer survivor is a forever thing. Crossing that finish line last year felt like an accomplishment and like the treatment was behind you.”
— Joy Gerber
Behind the Lens
For the BellRinger video, we used the Arri 35 with Atlas Mercury anamorphic lenses, creating stunning visuals with rich depth and character. For dynamic driving shots through Washington, DC, we relied on the Sony FX3 paired with the Ronin 3 Pro. With help from Central Grip & Lighting, we mounted the camera to the front and back of a car using a cheese plate, three suction cups, and string tie-downs, with an iPhone serving as the remote head control. This setup allowed us to capture smooth, cinematic footage on the go.
Lighting was simple, focusing on available light with the occasional use of an Astra bi-color panel or a small LED for accents. With a documentary-style crew and a clear plan, we captured real moments while staying agile and efficient.
Capturing the Energy of the Event
In addition to the short scripted documentary, we also documented the BellRinger cancer ride event itself, showcasing the community spirit and excitement surrounding the cause. The event kicked off with a vibrant celebration featuring live bands, drinks, food, and activities that brought the riders and supporters together. With cameras rolling, we captured the energy and anticipation of the first night.
The next morning began early—with a 5:00 a.m. call time—as we prepared to film the ride itself. Using two cameras, we followed the riders across scenic routes through the finish line.
We delivered a video library for BellRinger’s ongoing marketing efforts, including 13 videos in vertical and horizontal formats designed for social media, along with 300+ fully colored video clips for the marketing team to use as needed. This comprehensive coverage ensures that the story of BellRinger will continue to inspire and engage audiences well beyond the event for 2025.
I’m honored and forever grateful for Lombardi and to be a part of this organization.
